Thirty years ago my husband held our newborn baby in the delivery room and said, “This baby is special” I studied his sweet baby face and noticed the slightly protruding tongue and the little crinkles around his eyes. My doctor said, “Wait for the blood tests .” But we didn't need a test to tell. Had I known then how much fun and love our little Downs Syndrome son would bring into our family, I never would have wept.

My son is the inspiration for my children's fantasy book, "Hooper & Gigoblast." Ricky found that in order to return home he must cross a bridge that sways low over the water.  Sounded easy enough until he learned it was guarded by a fearsome beast called a wutherbeast.
